Setenil de las Bodegas
During our european summer vacation we were so lucky to have visited so many beautiful places but sometimes certain places leave a mark in your heart and mind, one of them was Setenil de las Bodegas in the Sierra de Cádiz. Not only because it was quaint and different but because of its people. I had the pleasure to meet a few of them and the conversations made my stay more memorable. So let’s take a walk and meet my new friends! I hope you like them as much as I did.
Setenil de las Bodegas
Este verano tuvimos la suerte de visitar muchos lugares hermosos del viejo continente pero siempre hay unos cuantos que dejan su marca en el corazón y la mente, uno de ellos fue Setenil de las Bodegas situado en la sierra de Cádiz. Me impactó no solo por la belleza natural del lugar sino también por su gente. Tuve la dicha de conocer algunas personas y tener conversaciones que hicieron este lugar memorable. Entonces vamos a caminar para que conozcan a mis nuevos amigos, espero que sean de su agrado así como lo fueron para mi.
Do you see that white town on top of the hill? That is Setenil de las Bodegas. Wow, I thought, another beautiful quaint white town of Andalucia or Andalucquia as our GPS girl would say.
Pueden ver ese pequeño pueblo pintoresco allá arriba en la colina? Ese es Setenil de la Bodegas. Guao, pensé, otro hermoso pueblo blanco de la región de Andalucía o Andalúkia como diría la chica del GPS.
It is getting dark and we are not sure where our accommodation is, so we ask for directions. A nice woman points, “It is all the way at the end of the road but if I were you I would park my car somewhere near here because the road gets narrower and narrower.” Naahhhh we thought!!! The narrow road was the one in Arcos de la Frontera and we made it, well, Cesar made it.
Ya estaba oscureciendo y todavía no encontrábamos nuestro hotel, le preguntamos a una señora y nos dice: Yo de ustedes parqueo por aquí, el hotel está al final de la calle y esta se pondrá mas angosta. Naaa… pensamos! Calle angosta fué la de Arcos de la Frontera y pasamos bien, bueno César pasó, el es el que maneja 😉

Cesar pleeeaaazeee be careful. OMG! Ahhhhh!!!! I am getting out of the car! Indeed the road is shrinking and shrinking but Cesar (my Carioca driver) gets through without scratching the car, phew!
César, por favor, con cuidadooooo… Ayyyyyy le vas a dar al retrovisor y es que era verdad, el camino se iba poniendo mas angosto cada vez, pero mi piloto carioca pasó sin raspar el carro, uffff!!!!
What a place! The houses are built under huge rocks, can you see? It is getting darker. We are tired and still have to find our rented house for the night.
Que lugar! Las casas fueron construídas bajo rocas inmensas, pueden ver? Ya estaba oscureciendo, estábamos cansados y todavía no encontrábamos el hotel.
